You have tried to submit your FPS or EPS and are getting this error back from HMRC. This error means that the Company UTR or Self-assessment UTR you have entered under Company Details is not recognised by HMRC. We cannot authenticate these details for you and therefore you will need to find the correct number by either looking at your HMRC online services account or contacting HMRC for further guidance.
Limited Company UTR
If you are a limited company - you should have a company 10-digit Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR). This should have been posted to your company address by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) within 14 days of the company being registered with Companies House (incorporated).
You should be able to find this within your HMRC online services account or if you don't think you received one, HMRC does have a service where you can request a copy of your company UTR.
If you are trying to claim CIS deductions through your limited company to offset against PAYE, then you will need your UTR number. Without your valid company UTR number, you will be unable to claim CIS deductions.
Self-assessment UTR
If you need to find your self-assessment UTR, you can find HMRC help here at Find a lost UTR. HMRC Employers: general enquiries
